Historical expedition strategy
Routes of Africa
In the footsteps of Heinrich Barth.
About the game
Routes of Africa
Routes of Africa is a historical expedition strategy game set in North and Central Africa during the mid-19th century. The opening chapter follows Heinrich Barth from Tunis and Carthage to Tripoli and Murzuk. Later, you lead your own expedition and decide which historical travellers and specialists will join you.
Plan routes across a freely navigable map where information is incomplete and every journey carries risk. Equip your caravan, manage water, food, animals, money and morale, and choose between travelling quickly or carefully surveying the land. Accurate measurements cost time and supplies, but create reliable routes that make future journeys safer and faster. Encounters, new information and documented findings can change your plans and secure further funding.
Routes of Africa combines exploration, resource management and history without armies or empire building. Every expedition is a balance between ambition, knowledge and survival—and every route tells a story.
